How Interior Design Affects Productivity While Working From Home

February 24, 2023 Coco Admin Alt

It’s time to prioritize interior design! More people than ever are interested in remodeling their home offices. This is because remote employment is becoming more and more common. So I wanted to share what I’ve learned from working on a startup from home for over 3 years. Interior design affects productivity while working at home. It is crucial to create a space that helps you focus, and is visually appealing while being completely functional. Discover my tips to update your interior design to make your work-from-home experience better than ever.

1. All About The Lights

One of the most crucial elements that will impact productivity while working from home is lighting. The proper lighting may elevate our moods, ease eye strain, and even control our sleep cycles. The greatest sort of lighting for a home office is natural light because it controls our circadian cycle. If natural light isn’t an option, it’s crucial to select artificial lighting that closely resembles natural light.

2. The Color Palette Sets The Mood

Color sets the tone! The right color (or the wrong color) has a big influence on how we feel. Cool colors like blues and greens can be peaceful and soothing, while warm colors like yellow, orange, and red can be energizing and exciting. It’s crucial to select colors that complement the kind of work you undertake. Find the right color that will help motivate you in your working area.

3. Cozy Furniture Can Be Productive

Searching for furniture is hard. But searching for furniture that you know you will be plopped in for hours and hours is even HARDER!  Working from home requires a relaxing and effective home setup. A comfortable chair is essential because you’ll be sitting in it for a long time. It needs to have excellent back support. It’s also necessary to have a desk that fits your needs in terms of height and space. Do you need a lot of storage? Do you need to put a trash bin or other storage underneath the desk?  Buy furniture that offers enough storage to keep your desk clean because a crowded workspace will become distracting very quickly.

4. Avoid Distracting Noises

Discover different techniques to make a workspace more productive by reducing noisy distractions around you. Not all noise is bad. However, some noises can be distracting. Especially, if you live in an open floor plan. Pick a peaceful area of your house that is far away from anything that might take your attention elsewhere. Be mindful of windows near busy streets. Invest in noise-canceling headphones or even regular headphones to play calming music. Interior designers love to use thick materials in office spaces to absorb sound. Accessorize your home office with carpets and drapes to help block out some of the noise.

5. Bring The Outside Indoors

Plants are always a great addition to any space. Adding hints of greenery is proven to add positivity to an environment. Indoor plants can lower tension, reduce stress, and enhance air quality. Also, vibrant flowers cab to help improve your mood and boost productivity. Just keep in mind if you’re sensitive to fragrance, then it’s better to stick with a lush green plant.

There are many ways interior design affects productivity. While there are many things you can do on your own to improve the design of your home office. That includes quick DIY projects or something as easy as repainting an accent wall. But sometimes it’s best to leave it to the professionals. Hiring a professional interior designer with a  specialty in home office design can ensure that your workspace is not only functional but also beautiful and tailored to your specific needs.
