This Georgian home in Surrey dates back to 1750 and had been stripped of much of its original character by previous owners. When Covet Noir took on the 9,000-square-foot, Grade II listed property, the goal was to bring its grandeur back while making it feel calm, comfortable, and very much suited to modern family life.
The result is a study in restraint: Parisian luxe meets Scandinavian simplicity, with historic details, natural materials, sculptural furniture, and plenty of warm neutrals.

Bringing Back the Georgian Details
One of the most striking things about the renovation is how much architectural character was carefully restored.
Covet Noir rebuilt lost plasterwork, raised and fielded wall panels, and decorative ceiling details, allowing the home’s original proportions to become part of the design again. In the entrance hall, a cantilevered limestone staircase with Nero Marquina cabochon inlay adds a more graphic note to the otherwise soft palette.
The effect is grand, but never overly formal. White walls, warm wood, aged finishes, and natural light keep the architecture feeling surprisingly relaxed.

A Quiet, Layered Palette
Throughout the home, the materials do most of the talking.
Marble and alabaster bring a sense of luxury, while boucle, brushed cotton, aged wood, and antique pieces add warmth and texture. The neutral palette allows the original architecture to remain the focal point rather than competing with it.
In the living spaces, creamy upholstery sits alongside dark wood, vintage-inspired pieces, and sculptural lighting. Even the more traditional elements—ornate fireplaces, decorative moldings, and crystal chandeliers—feel fresh against the pared-back interiors.

Where Old Meets New
The dining room might be our favorite example of the home’s balance.
A substantial marble-topped table anchors the room, surrounded by simple midcentury-inspired wooden chairs. Above it, a sculptural modern light fixture contrasts beautifully with the ornate Georgian ceiling and traditional wall paneling.
Elsewhere, antique furniture and architectural fittings were sourced throughout the project, giving the home a sense of history while also making the restoration a more sustainable one.
It’s this mix that keeps the interiors from feeling too polished or predictable. Nothing feels like it came from the same showroom.

Designed for Family Life
For all its elegance, this is still a family home—with two young children and two dogs.
That practicality was part of the brief, which makes the choice of durable, tactile materials especially clever. Boucle seating, brushed cotton curtains, sturdy wood, and stone surfaces bring softness without making the rooms feel precious.
The study, for example, pairs rich walnut built-ins with a classic desk and sculptural boucle chair, creating a space that feels sophisticated but comfortable.

The Bathroom Is All About the Marble
The bathrooms take the home’s material palette to its most luxurious extreme.
Floor-to-ceiling marble wraps the shower, while the custom vanity pairs dramatic stone with warm oak cabinetry. Dark fixtures add just enough contrast to keep all that pale stone from feeling too sweet.
It’s a beautiful example of how the rest of the house’s design philosophy carries into the more contemporary spaces: luxurious materials, quiet colors, and very little unnecessary decoration.
